HANK WILLIAMS' Last Single Was Called 'I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive' and He Did Not #short

???? Hank Williams was the greatest country music songwriter who ever lived.

Born in a one-room Alabama shack in 1923, he taught himself guitar from a street musician named Rufus Payne and was performing on local radio by his early teens. By the time he was twenty-five he was the biggest star in country music.

He recorded fifty-five top ten singles. Songs like Your Cheatin' Heart, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry and Cold Cold Heart became standards that every musician who came after him — Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, the Rolling Stones — acknowledged as foundational.

But behind the music was a man in constant pain. Born with an undiagnosed spinal condition, Hank Williams spent his adult life managing agony with alcohol and prescription drugs. In 1952 the Grand Ole Opry fired him — the biggest disgrace in country music history at the time.

His last single released while he was alive was titled I'll Never Get Out of This World Alive.

On the evening of December 31, 1952, Hank hired a seventeen-year-old college student named Charles Carr to drive him from Montgomery, Alabama to a New Year's Day concert in Canton, Ohio. Somewhere in the mountains of West Virginia, in the early hours of January 1, 1953, Hank Williams died in the back seat.

His driver didn't notice for hours.

When Carr stopped at a gas station in Oak Hill, West Virginia, he reached back to check on his passenger. Rigor mortis had already set in.

Hank Williams was twenty-nine years old.

Your Cheatin' Heart was released posthumously. It went to number one.

Johnny Cash - Streets of Laredo #westernstories #countrymusic #johnnycash

"Streets of Laredo" (Laws B01, Roud 23650), also known as "The Dying Cowboy", is an American cowboy ballad in which a dying ranger tells his story to another cowboy. Members of the Western Writers of America listed it as number four of the Top 100 Western songs of all time.

Derived from the traditional folk song "The Unfortunate Rake", the song has become a folk music standard, and as such has been performed, recorded and adapted numerous times, with many variations. The title refers to the city of Laredo, Texas.

-----
Larry McMurtry's Streets of Laredo is a 1995 American Western television miniseries directed by Joseph Sargent. It is a three-part adaptation of the 1993 novel of the same name by author Larry McMurtry and is the third installment in the Lonesome Dove series serving as a direct sequel to Lonesome Dove (1989), ignoring the events of Return to Lonesome Dove (1993).
The Wolfbot Experiment: Emulating Vintage Transformer Iron

From Satellite Navigation to a DI box of 1950s Provenance and Motown Pedigree...

In this follow-up to the introduction of my search for better emulation of the 1970s “Outlaw Country Vinyl (OCV)” sound, I move from the theory of Kalman filters into the first stage of the actual experiment: my Airwindows Wolfbot bus.

Wolfbot is Chris Johnson’s unconventional attempt to emulate the Wolfbox, a classic transformer-driven DI box (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wolfbox). But instead of standard saturation curves, he used two Kalman filters to mimic the bandpassing and inductive "heave" of transformer iron. It’s designed to target the "brutal directness" of low-mids while wiping out digital string-gloss—turning a thin signal into a "bass horn."

The “Juice through Iron” Setup:

* The Bandpass: I show my 2-stage TDR Nova setup (LP 200Hz / HP 80Hz) to isolate the "Juice" before it hits the "Iron."
* The Wolfbot Bus: We A/B the parallel saturation layer to see if it provides that missing structural weight.
* The Blurb: I invite you to read Chris’s own notes on Wolfbot; it’s a fascinating look at how he uses recursive math to simulate the physics of a vintage transformer.

The Result:

I remain skeptical as to whether we can ever truly "bottle" the complex energy distribution of a 1978 Nashville vinyl master within a DAW. However, as I believe you’ll hear in the A/B, the Wolfbot bus presents an encouraging step in the right direction.

Please let know in the comments what you think of this experiment, and if you like this video, then please kindly spot me a 'like', as that's supposed to goose the algorithm into suggesting this video to others who might also find it of interest.

May the winds of clarity blow ever in your favor.
"Crying In The Chapel" is a song written by Artie Glenn and recorded by his son Darrell Glenn. The song was released in 1953 and reached number six on the Billboard chart. The song has also been recorded by many artists including the Orioles and June Valli, but the most successful version was by Elvis Presley, whose recording reached number three in the US, and number one in the UK in 1965.

According to Artie Glenn's youngest son, Larry, the song was inspired by a personal experience his father had, and the chapel in the title was the Loving Avenue Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. By this account, Glenn had suffered a serious back problem, and while in hospital, he bargained with God that he would become a better person if God helped him recover. He recuperated from a successful spinal surgery, and when he was released from hospital, he went to pray at the nearest chapel he could find. While in the chapel, he started shedding tears of joy, which was witnessed by the pastor. The inspiration for the song then came to him, by the time he was back home, he had the basic tune and the chorus, and that evening he finished the rest of the song. Glenn's son Darrell recorded a demo of the song. The song, however, was rejected by a number of publishers, and the song sat unreleased for some time. The song was eventually published by Valley Publishers, while a small independent label Valley Records from Knoxville released the recording as a single.

Darrell Glenn was the first to record the song while still in high school, backed by his father's band the Rhythm Riders. This original version of the song was issued in May 1953. The song became a local hit in Fort Worth, Texas, and then it went nationwide. It quickly gained the attention of other artists who then recorded the song.

Many different versions of the song in a variety of genres were released in the summer of 1953, and they appeared in multiple genre charts. Four versions (Glenn, Rex Allen, the Orioles and June Valli) reached Billboard's best-selling popular records chart at the same time in August, while two versions (Glenn, Allen) also reached the country and western best-selling record chart, and one (the Orioles) on the rhythm and blues chart in the same month. Ella Fitzgerald and the Ray Charles Singers also recorded a Jazz version (flip side of her "When the Hands of the Clock Pray at Midnight", Decca 28762), while Rosetta Tharpe recorded a spiritual version. All versions sold over a combined million copies by August 1953 before they peaked in the charts.

Glenn's original recording was the first to appear in Billboard's Top Popular Records as well as the country and western charts in July 1953, eventually reaching number six on Billboard pop singles chart, and number four on the Billboard country and western chart. The version by Rex Allen reached number eight, the Orioles' number 11, Ella Fitzgerald number 15, and Art Lund reached number 23. On the Cash Box chart where versions by Glenn, June Valli, the Orioles and Rex Allen were amalgamated, the song reached number one. In the UK, Lee Lawrence took his version to number 7.

On October 31, 1960, Elvis Presley cut a version of the song with plans to put it on his RCA gospel album His Hand in Mine. Three takes were recorded, but neither Elvis nor the Jordanaires, who provided background vocals, were satisfied. Eventually, it was decided to shelve the recordings and move on. On April 6, 1965, "Crying In the Chapel" was issued on RCA's "Gold Standard Series." It became Elvis' first million seller since "Return to Sender" in 1962 and his greatest chart success over a six-year span. The single hit number three on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart and topped the Easy Listening chart for seven weeks. It was later included as a bonus track on Presley's 1967 gospel album, How Great Thou Art. Presley's version also was a hit in the United Kingdom, where it spent two non-consecutive weeks at number one.

More than 50 artists worldwide have released a version of "Crying in the Chapel".

Barbara Mandrell is often remembered for the sequins and primetime television of the 1980s, but beneath the variety show glamour was one of the most disciplined and technically proficient musicians in history. In this short documentary, I strip away the "Pop Star" gloss to focus on the genesis of a prodigy: The First Lady of Steel.

I trace her journey from a 13-year-old session musician touring with Johnny Cash and Patsy Cline to her early Country/Western albums at Columbia Records. This episode explores her "Laser Focus"—a determination that saw her mastering the pedal steel guitar, saxophone, and banjo before she was even out of high school.

* The Bakersfield Connection: How her California roots and mentorship under Joe Maphis and Norman Hamlet created a sound that was edgier and more "electrified" than Nashville's standard fare.

The Movie They Made Without a Script: Casablanca's Secret

The Movie They Made Without a Script: How Casablanca Became a Masterpiece
Nobody knew how it would end. Not even the people making it.
May 1942. Warner Bros. started filming "Casablanca," one of the most beloved films in history. But there was a problem: they didn't have an ending. They didn't even have a complete script.
Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman showed up every morning asking, "What happens today?" Writers handed them pages written the night before—sometimes that morning. Nobody knew who Ilsa would choose: Rick or Victor. Love or duty.
"Here's looking at you, kid"? Bogart improvised it.
"We'll always have Paris"? Written the night before they filmed it.
The iconic ending? They figured it out 48 hours before shooting it.
This is the story of how Hollywood created the greatest love story ever filmed from absolute chaos.
In this video, you'll discover:

Why Casablanca started filming without a finished script
How Ingrid Bergman didn't know who her character loved
The famous lines that were improvised or written last-minute
Why Bogart got his lines minutes before shooting
How the writers figured out the ending just days before filming it
The cardboard plane and fog machines of the airport scene
Why chaos and uncertainty made the performances so real
How an unplanned masterpiece won Best Picture

This is the untold story of the beautiful accident that became cinema's greatest film.
From Wikipedia:

"Days of Wine and Roses" is a popular song, from the 1962 film of the same name.

The music was written by Henry Mancini with lyrics by Johnny Mercer. They received the Academy Award for Best Original Song for their work, as well as the 1964 Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Song of the Year. In 2004 it finished at #39 in AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs survey of top tunes in American cinema.

The song's lyric is notable for consisting of just two complex sentences, each of which forms one of the song's two stanzas.

Recordings:
The best-known recordings of the song were by Billy Eckstine in 1961 and Andy Williams in 1963, but several other recording artists have also recorded the song, including Bill Evans, Dick and Dee Dee, Shirley Bassey, Frank Sinatra, Julie London, Perry Como, Blossom Dearie, Wes Montgomery (1963: Boss Guitar), McCoy Tyner, Jaco Pastorius and Lenny Breau. Tony Bennett sang his interpretation on his prestigious "The Movie Song Album" (1966). Pat Boone. Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass recorded their version of this song on their Pablo Records album "Easy Living." The song has become a jazz standard.

Williams' version was recorded for Columbia Records. It was released as catalog number 42674. The song reached No. 9 on the adult contemporary chart and No. 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and was the featured track on the album, "Days of Wine and Roses and Other TV Requests," which peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Perry Como's version was recorded for RCA Victor Records. The recording was made on March 19, 1963. The record was issued by RCA Victor as a track on the album, "The Songs I Love." On the Cash Box chart, where all singles were combined, the song reached a peak position of No. 30 in May 1963.

Vince Guaraldi and Bola Sete recorded an instrumental version for Fantasy Records in 1963. It was released on the album "Vince Guaraldi, Bola Sete and Friends," and was a featured single (it did not chart).

In 2000, The Lettermen included the song on their "Greatest Movie Hits" album. R&B/soul singer Miki Howard recorded it for her 2008 album, "Private Collection."

The phrase "days of wine and roses" is originally from the poem "Vitae Summa Brevis" by the English writer Ernest Dowson (1867–1900):

They are not long, the days of wine and roses:
Out of a misty dream
Our path emerges for a while, then closes
Within a dream.

In 2024, Christian McBride and Edgar Meyer included the song in their album "But Who's Gonna Play the Melody?."

An original Psychotic Embolism song written by our bassist, Mike N Ike, while he was on vacation in a banana hammock in Puerto Rico! This song is actually a banger and since he loves Johnny Cash, he wanted this song to be sung that way and I truly tried my best. I cannot get this song out of my head, it’s just so catchy, especially the chorus. The fast pace is something I thought I wouldn’t like at first but now I’m digging it. Kudos to Mike N Ike for writing such a great song. This will not be going on our first album, as that already has twelve song. Enjoy this banger! “In life we find ride or dies who will all leave your side!”
Lyrics:

Chicken Scratch

(Verse 1)
We fear what we see the most
For me it's wasted time
But what should scare me the most
Is bottled up inside
In life we find ride or dies
Who all will leave your side
You can't run away from fate
It'll come to you sometime

(Chorus)
I'm lost to the after thought
And caught up in the tide
All that resides in my mind
Chicken scratch and alibis
But when all the lies subside
Deny, deny, deny
We do as we're taught
It's clear in my eyes

(Verse 2)
Your mind can't be transcribed
On papers dotted line
Spilling blood is a crime
Unless it's yours or mine
Freedom can't be won or earned
But bought with your soul
Maybe that's just me but
That's a hefty toll

(Chorus)

(Verse 1)

(Chorus)

(Ending)
Chicken scratch and alibis x4

From Legendary to Transcendent: Introducing Airwindows Meter

The Physics of Sound: Energy Management and the Transcendent Master

In this technical breakdown, we move beyond the "how" of peak energy management vis a vis loudness and into the "why" of sonic vitality. Having established a mastering chain that achieves our target volume with zero gain reduction, we now turn to a critical diagnostic tool: Airwindows Meter.

This video explores the transition from a "Legendary" rating—indicative of sonic correspondence with many "gold standard" recordings—to the elusive "Transcendent" state. Using a 1978 Johnny Cash reference track provided by the committee, we compare the "energy signatures" of a classic analog-era master against our current project.

The Energy Principle
In the physical universe, energy is neither created nor destroyed; it is only transformed or redistributed. The same holds in audio work. By identifying where energy is "leaking" through Overslew Spikes (uncontrolled velocity) and reallocating that power through precise wave-shaping, we can increase the "Sonority" and impact of the recording (both auditory and emotional) without increasing the peak volume.

Key Highlights:

* The Johnny Cash Benchmark: Analyzing "Six Gun Shooting" to establish our baseline for a "Legendary" rating.

* Understanding Slew & Sonority: Why the velocity of a waveform is more important than its height.

* The Overslew Paradox: How to achieve high-velocity audio events while maintaining total technical purity (avoiding the "skidding" effect found in vintage gear).

* The Quest for Transcendent: A look at how redistributing energy within the mix can tip the rating upward while imparting more micro-transient texture, in this case specifically to the vocal performance.

Note: To hear the subtle discrepancies in "warmth" and "weight" discussed in this series, high-fidelity monitoring or studio-grade headphones are recommended. As stipulated in the previous video, video processing has somewhat "sterilized" the signal, stripping it somewhat of a fullness that is more present in the master.

As always, my process is my process, and I share it "as-is", without any claim, implicit or otherwise, that others should do the same. But if you like these videos and feel that they're helping you along in any way, please do take the time to like, subscribe, and say hello in the "Community" feature which is supposed to be accessible somewhere below the video.

May the winds of clarity blow ever in your favor.

The Aluminum Age - The History of Kramer Guitars Part 1

Before the shred era, before Floyd Rose bridges and banana headstocks, Kramer Guitars began with a radical idea: build guitars with aluminum necks.

In the mid-1970s, the electric guitar world was dominated by familiar designs from Fender and Gibson. Wooden neck construction had been the standard for decades, but it came with persistent issues—warping, instability, and inconsistencies between instruments. Around this time, machinist and designer Travis Bean introduced a bold alternative: a neck milled from solid aluminum.

The concept worked. Aluminum necks were incredibly stable, offered remarkable sustain, and represented one of the most technically ambitious guitar designs ever attempted. But they were also heavy, expensive to manufacture, and unfamiliar to many players.

This is where the story of Kramer Guitars begins.

In this episode we examine the founding era of Kramer, when Gary Kramer, Dennis Berardi, Henry Vaccaro, Phil Petillo, and others attempted to refine and commercialize the aluminum neck concept. By combining aluminum with wooden inserts and phenolic fingerboards, they created instruments that retained the stability of metal while addressing some of the drawbacks of earlier designs.

We’ll explore:

• The origins of aluminum neck guitars and the influence of Travis Bean
• Gary Kramer’s partnership with Travis Bean and his ideas for improving the design
• How Dennis Berardi became involved and helped transform the concept into a company
• The role of Phil Petillo in building early prototypes
• Henry Vaccaro’s investment and the formation of Kramer Guitars in 1976
• The engineering behind the aluminum neck with wooden inserts
• Early production challenges and the creation of Kramer’s machine shop
• Why early Kramer basses outsold guitars by a wide margin
• Unique design details like Kramer’s 33¾" bass scale and 25" guitar scale
• The debut of Kramer guitars at the 1976 NAMM show

The aluminum-neck era represents one of the most experimental periods in American guitar manufacturing. While later decades would associate Kramer with Eddie Van Halen and the shred guitar boom, the company actually began as a bold engineering experiment—an attempt to rethink how electric guitars could be built.

This video is Part 1 of a full chronological history of Kramer Guitars, tracing the company from its experimental beginnings through its rise in the 1980s and beyond.
