Closer to the Bone was written and recorded by Kris Kristofferson after he was diagnosed with Altziemer's (which turned out to be a false diagnosis, as this brilliant singer, songwirter, actor is dealing with lymes disease instead). While this song has sad undertones, it's basically a song of triumph as he realized how sweet it all has been and still is.
