11. Havasu Falls
For an amazing, colorful experience, look no further than Havasu Falls! Waterfalls roar into bright, teal colored water with orange and red rocks more reminiscent of a tropical paradise than the dry southwest United States! Located near the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona, Havasu Creek starts out as a trickle and then falls into Havasu Canyon, which is even older than the Grand Canyon itself.

10. Bassin Bleu
Bassin Bleu is famous for being one of the most beautiful and expansive swimming holes in Haiti. Hidden deep in the mountains northwest of Jacmel, Bassin Bleu is made up of three azure pools connected by waterfalls. It is one of Haiti’s main tourist attractions and visitors claim that because it is so sheltered, it is one of the best swimming holes ever!

9. Playa Nicuesa
Of course you have to go visit the rainforest too!! If you are up for a jungle adventure then the Playa Nicuesa Rainforest Lodge has you covered. Located in the Costa Rican rainforest, you can only get to this lodge by boat! Along the way, you’ll see beautiful views of the Pacific Coast, filled with jade-colored water, dolphins, and gigantic foliage!

8. Nahal David Stream
This is a waterfall, in the middle of the desert It sounds outlandish, but you can find just such an oasis at the Nahal David Stream, around the northern side of Ein Gedi Nature Reserve in Israel, just west of the Dead Sea.

7. The Devil’s Pool
This pool proves that there’s a swimming pool for everyone - even the bravest adrenaline junkies! If you’re the daredevil type, you’ll want to skip all of the hotsy-totsy hotel and resort pools and go straight to the Devil’s Pool, located in the Victoria Falls of Zambia and South Africa - the largest waterfalls in the world, and one of the Seven Natural Wonders.

6. Bottomless Lakes State Park
The beautiful Bottomless Lakes State Park in New Mexico, USA is home to many great activities, including hiking, camping, and most notably, an intriguing swimming experience. While this park has nine different lakes, swimming is only permitted in Lake Lea, a natural lake that has become one of the most sought after swimming holes in the country, if not the world.

5. Seljavallalaug
This next one is not so much a swimming hole as it is a pool proper. However, its distance from civilization and placement amidst wondrous scenery gives it a spot on this list. If I can pronounce it -Seljavallalaug – is located in Iceland, about six miles east of Ásólfsskáli (another word I can’t pronounce!) If you want to go there be sure to write it down on a piece of paper just in case. Built in 1923, it was originally meant as a place where children could learn to swim.

4. Ik Kil Cenote
Most swimming holes I’ve told you about have been clearly visible above ground. This one however, is a little more mysterious. Located in Yucatán, Mexico, the Ik Kil is a cenote, or a natural sinkhole which is created from collapsed limestone bedrock that reveals an underground swimming hole. This swimming hole is open for swimming all year round.

3. Saturnia Thermal Baths
So far, most of the waters that we have been focusing on have been cold. But what if you’re not looking to cool down? Then the Saturnia thermal baths might be just what you’re searching for. Saturnia is an ancient village located south of Tuscany, and nestled more generally in what is known as the Maremma, the large geographical area that extends from Lazio to Tuscany.

2. Wakulla Springs
This is one of the largest and deepest freshwater springs in the world. These swimming holes are found in the cerulean waters of Wakulla Springs, located in Florida’s Wakulla Springs State Park, just twenty minutes south of Tallahassee. These waters are home to manatees, alligators, and many other types of wildlife, all of which can be seen from a riverboat or diving platform.

1. Queen’s Bath
Queen’s Bath is found just outside of the Princeville resort in Kauai, Hawaii. A short hike from the mainland leads past a waterfall and down a jagged assortment of lava rock. The pool itself is separated from the ocean by this rock. Water pours over from the ocean, keeping it refreshed. Because of this, you may even end up swimming with some sea creatures.
