Janis was a child of her generation. A hippie and a flower child who fought drug addiction for most of her adult life until her death from an over dose in 197o. She sang lead for Big Brother And Holding Company on their 1968 hit, Piece Of My Heart. She turned solo in 1969 and had her biggest hit with this Kris Kristofferson song in 1971' It reached #1 and was the #11 song of 1971. It also ranks as the #148 song on Rolling Stone's 500 greatest.
