Why does the devil hate humans? In the Quran rather than being a literal angel, Iblis (his arabic name) is depicted as being a jinn made of fire, while Adam is made of clay. When commanded to bow to Adam, the father of mankind, Iblis refuses. Some of his reasoning is that "I am made of fire, while he is made of clay" which some would consider racist logic. Either way, this timeless story is one that has captured billions of people and has countless lessons for us to benefit from.
