This year, we've sadly said goodbye to many notable celebrities.
Making us say 2020 hasn't been an easy year for anybody, not least due to the tragic loss of these beloved stars. Despite their deaths their legacies will endure: in the loved ones who survive them, and the memories they've left for their fans. Here are the celebrities who have died in 2020.

Kobe Bryant died at the age of 41 on January 26th 2020, in a helicopter crash over Calabasas, California. The crash also killed his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna, who Kobe was reportedly taking to basketball practice at the time of the tragic crash.

Bryant, who joined the NBA right out of high school, was widely regarded as one of the greatest basketball players of all time. He won five NBA championships and was named NBA Finals MVP twice and league MVP once throughout his celebrated 20-year career. The Los Angeles Lakers retired both of Bryant's jersey numbers: 8 and 24. In addition to being one of the most decorated NBA stars of all time, he was also an Oscar winner, taking home an award for his 2018 short animated film Dear Basketball.

Naya Rivera was pronounced dead at age 33 in July after she took her 4-year-old son Josey — whom she shared with her ex-husband, Ryan Dorsey — out on a boat at Lake Piru in California. The Glee star was at first declared a missing person on July 8 when her son was found alone on the boat. Officials later announced that she was presumed dead and her body was recovered five days later.

Later that month, Regis Philbin died on July 24 at the age of 88 of natural causes. “His family and friends are forever grateful for the time we got to spend with him — for his warmth, his legendary sense of humor, and his singular ability to make every day into something worth talking about,” his family said in a statement about the late star.

Chadwick Boseman, for his part, died on August 28 at age 43 following a secret four-year battle with colon cancer.

A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you many of the films you have come to love so much. From Marshall to Da 5 Bloods. All were filmed during and between countless surgeries and chemotherapy. It was the honor of his career to bring King T’Challa to life in Black Panther. He died in his home, with his wife and family by his side.”

Kenny Rogers died on March 20, 2020, at 81 of natural causes.
Raised in a housing project in Houston, the musician joined a doo-wop group when he was 18, and had his first solo hit with "That Crazy Feeling" two years later. In 1967, Rogers found further success when he joined First Edition alongside Glen Campbell.
Rogers' 1983 duet with Dolly Parton, "Islands in the Stream," became an instant classic, and Parton performed the song with Rogers at his 2017 farewell concert in Nashville.

Justin Townes Earle
The Americana singer-songwriter and son of country-rock star Steve Earle died at age 38 on August 23. “So many of you have relied on his music and lyrics over the years and we hope that his music will continue to guide you on your journeys,” his family said in a statement.

Daisy Coleman
Coleman, the star of the Netflix documentary Audrie & Daisy, died on August 4. Coleman’s mother, Melinda Coleman, confirmed her daughter’s passing via Facebook, writing, “She was my best friend and amazing daughter. I think she had to make it seem like I could survive without her. I can’t.” Daisy, who was a sexual assault survivor and later advocate, was 23.

Kirk Douglas

The Legendary actor Kirk Douglas died at age 103, his son, actor Michael Douglas, confirmed Wednesday. The actor died peacefully at home early Wednesday afternoon surrounded by his children, grandchildren and his wife of 65 years, Anne Buydens Douglas, according to the actor's longtime publicist Marcia Newberger.

James Lipton

The multitalented familiar face who hosted "Inside the Actors Studio," died at the age of 93 on march 2.

In addition to his role at the helm of the long-running series, Lipton was a writer and producer. Born in Detroit, Lipton rose to the level of celebrity when he began hosting the series that also served as a class for his students at the Actors Studio, where he was dean.

Pop Smoke, an up-and-coming rapper, was shot and killed the morning hours of 19th Feburary in what appeared to have been a home invasion robbery.

The rapper was at a home in the Hollywood Hills at around 4:30 AM when 2 men wearing hoodies and masks broke into a house ... this according to law enforcement sources.

Pop Smoke released an album back in July and one of the songs, "Welcome to the Party," blew up ... it was considered by many the song of the summer. Nicki Minaj did a remix of the song a few months later.
