Written & recorded by Dolly Parton.Released September 27th,1971...Dolly composed the song in 1969 while travelling with Porter Wagoner on a tour bus.At the time she had no paper so she wrote the song on the back of a dry cleaning receipt from 1 of Wagoner's suits.When it became a hit in 1971,Wagoner had the receipt framed.The song tells how Parton's mother stitched together a coat out of rags given to the family.
