Isolation Video #349 For the Good Times by Kris Kristofferson recorded by Stephen Mendel on Mar. 3, 2021

Kris Kristofferson wrote "For the Good Times" in 1968 while he was still flying helicopters to and from the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico after getting out of the army. The song is based upon his real life experience of the end of a particular love affair. In 2014, Rolling Stone Magazine named Ray Price's 1970 recording of it #18 on its, 40 Saddest Country Songs of All Time and singer/songwriter Kacey Musgreaves said that it might be the saddest song of all time. It was first recorded by Bill Nash in 1968 followed by Kristofferson's own recording on his first album but it was Ray Price's 1970 version that put the song on the map and established Kristofferson's reputation as a formidable songwriter.

Don't look so sad
I know it's over
But life goes on
And this old world will keep on turning
Let's just be glad
We had some time to spend together
There's no need to watch the bridges
That were burning

Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body
Close to mine
Hear the whisper of the rain drops
Blowing soft against the window
And make believe you love me
One more time
For the good times

I'll get along
You'll find another
And I'll be here
If you should find you ever need me
Don't say a word about tomorrow
Or forever
There'll be time enough for sadness
When you leave me

Lay your head upon my pillow
Hold your warm and tender body
Close to mine
Hear the whisper of the rain drops
Blowing soft against the window
And make believe you love me
One more time
