Is Watkins Glen State Park America's Best State Park? Watkin Glen State Park is located near the town of Watkins Glen, New York.

Watkins Glen State Park is the most famous of the Finger Lakes State Parks, with a reputation for leaving visitors breathless. The focal point of the park is a 400-foot-deep narrow gorge cut through rock by a stream, Glen Creek.

The Watkins Glen Gorge Trail hike is about 1.5 miles but ascends (from the main entrance) 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, create 19 waterfalls along the trail. You will climb 832 stone steps.

The gorge path twist & winds over, under & around waterfalls and through the spray of Cavern Cascade and under Rainbow Falls.

The Rim trails overlook the gorge with the South Rim Trail joining the Finger Lakes Trail (part of the North Country Trail) taking you past the Suspension bridge and Lily Pond.

In 2015, the Watkin Glen State Park was chosen from more than 6,000 state parks across the nation as a nominee in the USA TODAY Readers' Choice Poll for Best State Park in the United States, and won third place! We can wait to see #1 Letchworth State Park In Kentucky and #2 Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park in Michigan.
