It’s that time to get hyped up about the Raiders offense!

Last year, Jon Gruden and the Raiders orchestrated a top 10 offense in the league, (per espn.com) averaging 383.3 yards/game. The team threw for 4,217 yards (263.6/g), ran for 1,916 yards (119.8/g), and scored 434 overall points (27.1/g). Although these are some really nice numbers, the team did struggle on many occasions on both 3rd downs and especially in the red zone (ranking 23rd in red zone offense; per teamrankings.com)

The team made numerous changes throughout the offseason. Their once-loaded offensive line became the story of the offseason, as players such as Rodney Hudson, Gabe Jackson, and Trent Brown all departed for different teams. Gruden and offensive line coach Tom Cable are now putting all their eggs in the basket for backup center Andre James to take that giant leap and become the new leader on the line at Center.

In the 2021 draft, the Raiders used their 1st pick on Tackle Alex Leatherwood, who will come in and become the new starter at RT. They also drafted Center Jimmy Morrissey to compete for a spot on the roster. With returning players such as Kolton Miller, Richie Incognito, and Denzelle Good/John Simpson, the Raiders new look offensive line hopes to take strides early on and help make this offense even better than it was a year ago.

Outside of the oline, Nelson Agholor left for New England. In comes in John Brown (from BUF), Willie Snead IV (BAL), and Kenyan Drake (ARI). The Raiders hope Brown can fill in the shoes that Agholor left a season ago. With Snead being added to the fold, Gruden has stated he’s here to compete in the slot with Raider Nation favorite Hunter Renfrow. The coach also hopes RBs Drake and Josh can become the next top 1-2 punch combo, and push Cleveland Browns’ Nick Chubb and Kareem Hunt as the best RB duos in the league. Lastly, can’t forget 2nd year players Henry Ruggs III and Bryan Edwards, who are both showed promise a year ago, and are projected to be WRs1 and 2 heading into 2021.

The new season is almost here, with training camp right around the corner. Will the Raiders offense continue play at a top 10 level? Will they improve their red zone scoring? Will Ruggs and/or Edwards take that next step and elevate this offense to new heights? Will the offensive line continue to get better, or will they suffer early growing pains throughout the season?

No matter the circumstances that lie ahead, as the late Al Davis once said, no matter how it gets done, “Just Win!”
