What is an example of an iconoclast?
Iconoclasm literally means “image breaking” and refers to a recurring impulse to break or destroy historic icons for religious or political purposes. For example, in ancient Egypt, during the French Revolution, the carved images of some pharaohs were demolished by their successors; even images of kings were defaced.

Iconoclast... It almost sounds derogatory, but it’s a salute of the highest order to those singer/songwriters who endure time in the machine that is the music industry. It’s a tribute to another way to look at things. It’s a self-earned quality, not a gift, mastered by only a few of the greats.

Willie Nelson is one of those very few talents who left Nashville and made it to the top of ‘country music mountain’ anyway, alone. No big industry money, no glossy orchestration, no fluff, just raw talent; exactly like the man himself. He’s unpretentious, kind, and funny, and he fingers a mean Texican lead on his famed old guitar, Trigger, effortlessly.

In the 1950s, critics said his singing was offbeat and funny. Different will always be funny to some people. He who laughs last laughs best.
