The Pin Bhaba Pass trek is known for being one of the most thrilling pass-crossing treks in our country. But what makes it truly stand out is something most trekkers don’t expect — its campsites.
Every campsite on this trek feels different. The landscapes keep changing — from riversides and forests to wide grasslands and high-altitude valleys. Each one gives you a unique window into the mountains.
The first campsite, Mulling, is set beside the Bhaba River. The river flows wide, with vast grasslands stretching out on both sides. Across the river, a dense pine forest rises — so thick that barely any sunlight comes through. We camp right next to the river, surrounded by this beautiful mix of open grasslands and forest.
The next day, we reach Karah. This campsite sits at the meeting point of three green valleys. Grasslands spread across the slopes, and in the right season, the hills are dotted with pink wildflowers. Pashmina sheep often graze high up near the ridgelines. Our tents are pitched on a flat grassy ground, beside a small pond that reflects the surrounding snow-covered peaks.
From here, we move to Phutsirang, almost at 13,000 ft. This is a rare kind of campsite — set right next to a river delta. The river splits into many small branches here, and we camp slightly above them on soft grassy mounds. Ahead, snow-capped peaks line the horizon, and you can see the slope leading up to the Pin Bhaba Pass.
Finally, on the last day, we descend into Spiti and walk into Mudh village. The landscape shifts completely. The mountains turn colourful — with purple, pink, black, and white rock. Mudh itself is a quiet village with white homes laid out in perfect harmony, surrounded by farmlands. A small stream runs through the centre, bringing the whole village together.
These campsites are some of the most scenic you’ll come across on any Himalayan trek.
