The Jericho Line | A Modern Country Parable (Official Video)
"A neighbor ain't someone who thinks like you do... it’s the one who reaches out when the world breaks in two."
Welcome to "The Jericho Line," a gritty, Outlaw Country reimagining of the Parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37). Set against the backdrop of a dusty, winding highway and the sharp political tensions of modern-day America, this song asks a timeless question: In a world divided by Red and Blue, who is truly your neighbor?
While the Priest and the Levite in the original biblical story represented religious elites, our version looks at the "Blue" suits and "Red" trucks of today. It’s a raw, honky-tonk ballad about looking past the "labels on the bumper" to see the "brother in the dirt."
In the New Testament, Jesus told the story of the Good Samaritan to challenge our prejudices. At that time, Jews and Samaritans were deeply divided by culture and politics—much like the partisan lines we draw today. Jesus taught that mercy has no party affiliation. Whether you’re walking the road from Jerusalem to Jericho or driving down a lonely interstate, the call remains the same: Go and do likewise.
[Key Themes]
The Good Samaritan Story: Faith in action, not just in words.
Political Division: Moving beyond the "Red vs. Blue" labels to find common humanity.
Outlaw Country Sound: Inspired by the storytelling of Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Johnny Cash.
Lyrics Snippet:
"Oh, the Jericho Line is a bitter old way / Where we count up the cost of the words that we say / We’re shouting our colors from the east to the west / But we’re failing the heart and we’re failing the test..."
