The Very Best Of Madonna

She was born as Madonna Louise Ciccone in Michigan, USA. Her father's parents were emigrants from Italy while her mother was of French-Candian descent. Her mother passed away at age 30 from breast cancer and when her father remarried she rebelled against him. He put her in classical piano lessons but she convinced him to allow her to take ballet lessons instead. Her ballet teacher persuaded her to look for a career in dance. She moved to New York and worked as back-up dancer for established artists. She formed a rock band called Breakfast Club with her then boyfriend but Madonna soon decided that she wanted to be a solo act. She signed her first record deal in 1982.

From there Madonna's career took off - in the 80s she released multiple singles that went to #1 in the USA (7) and 3 albums also topped the chart. She became a huge worldwide star with her ability to adapt and change her appearances and style. In the 90s her success continued and with "This Used To Be My Playground" she became the female artist with the most #1 songs in the country at that time. Madonna won a total of 7 Grammys and after her movies first were usually criticized in a negatively manner she also won awards for her acting (Evita - Golden Globe Award '97 for best Actress).

She continued to achieve huge success even in the 2000s including her 12th #1 single "Music". She has sold over 300 million records worldwide making her the best selling female artists of all time according to the Guiness Book Of World Records. According to Billboard Madonna is the most successful solo artist in the history of the Hot 100 and 2nd overall behind the Beatles. Internationally she holds the records for most #1 singles by a female artist in Australia, the UK, Canada, Italy and Spain.

For me she is a personal favorite with almost 20 songs reaching my year-end Top 50 across the years. Here now are my favorite 40 songs of her and I hope you enjoy this ranking! What's your opinion?
