The film’s biting satire made it accessible to everyone. Its main actresses delivered it like old pros.
That was despite the fact that only two of them were. Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda were experienced. They knew how the process worked. They knew movie scenes are often filmed out of order and then edited together later. Dolly Parton didn’t have the same experience yet. However, she thought that movies were like plays and acted in order.

Fortunately, she was a quick study. She had everyone’s parts memorized fast. She was just glad to be a part of the process and try something new.The fact that Dolly wasn’t in every scene also turned out to be a blessing. She used the time to tap out the movie’s famous theme song with her false nails. They perfectly replicated the typewriters the secretary characters used.

The trio got along well and even had similar taste in men. Dolly had to inform the others that her famously reclusive husband Carl was taken when he showed up to the premiere. They had such a great time together that they worked together again. Dolly and Lilly worked on the reboot of The Beverly Hillbillies. The trio and other cast members appeared in a recent documentary to analyze the social issues that 9 to 5 tackled.

The world will never know exactly what it was like for Lily, Jane, and DOlly to work together. IT was like a sacred sisterhood that turned out a beloved staple of comedy film history.
