North Korea does not celebrate Christmas as a public holiday and in practice the holiday is effectively banned or heavily suppressed. The government tightly controls religion and public life, and traditional Christian celebrations like Christmas are not allowed openly.

Most North Koreans grow up without much awareness of Christmas or its religious meaning, and there are no public festivities, church services, decorations, or gift-giving like in many other countries.

Private or secret celebrations by believers are extremely rare and risky because religious activities are closely monitored and discouraged by the state.
