Trump just announced that the US is now going to run Venezuela until he decides that a transition can take place. He also said that the US is going to take their oil, and sell it to Russia and China. The US currently has no control over Venezuela’s government so Trump said that he will put boots on the ground to occupy the nation. This will force the US to battle an insurgency like it did in Iraq. Trump says this is going to “Make Venezuela Great Again”. The American Military is the best in the world at conducting combat operations, it is not equipped nor very good at nation building or battling insurgencies. Maduro is being transferred to Guantanamo Bay where he’ll stay before going to New York, but the Regime is still in place. The Vice President is currently in charge of the nation. In terms of the operation, Delta Force created an exact replica of Maduro’s safe house and practiced how they would enter the fortified house. Over 150 aircraft were used in the operation as well. Trump says this is the greatest show of force since World War 2, and that kind of statement makes total sense if you weren’t alive during both gulf wars, or the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But Trump was alive for all of them. He was 45 years old during the first gulf war.
